What Do I Need To Do?
Complete your ILJ for formative assessment. Try to think about what lessons would feel like without the list of features that you looked for when you completed your observation of a colleague for their use of formative assessment – no demonstrations, no think, pair, share, no discussion, no questions, no recaps, no reviews, no ‘whole-class’ boardwork and explanations…. what would be left that was likely to have any positive impact on learning? Think about how you learnt best when you were at school and what the teachers did to make that learning ‘stick’ so that you could remember it and apply it – sometimes months or years – later… how does formative assessment come into it? And if you remember to mention Dylan Wiliam and ‘responsiveness’, you’ll get extra credit!
