Reflection is a critical process for supporting your growth and development as a professional. Unfortunately, there is a lack of reflective ability shown in this evaluation. Summary statements are made such as: “overall, the lesson went really well.” There is a lack of detail given here as to what specifically lead to the lesson going “really well”, why the pupils are “great” and how they were able to “remember a lot from last time.” Analysis to support these claims is key.

2. If they were going to teach this lesson to the same group of students, what would they do differently? Why? What would they do the same? Why?
3. What connections can they make from their TLAs, educational theory, previous experiences or learning journals?
The Analysis: The analysis part addresses the lesson’s effectiveness – to what extent did they meet the objectives stated in their lesson plan and how do they know? They could make a claim about the impact of their teaching on student learning and support it with evidence that they gathered from the lesson.
General questions that they could have considered in their analysis:
1. To what extent did the students learn what was intended? How do they know? As part of their answer, they could have indicated:
a. In what ways were their teaching methods effective? How do they know?
b. In what ways were their activities effective? How do they know?
c. In what ways were the instructional materials effective?
d. How did any adaptations for pupil needs affect the lesson?
2. Identified an individual or group of students who had difficulty in today’s lesson. How did they account for this performance? How will they help this (these) student(s) achieve the learning objectives?
3. Identified an individual or group of students who did especially well in this lesson today. How did they account for this performance?
4. Based on what happened in this lesson, what are their next steps? What do they plan to teach next to this class? They should explain how they will use information from this evaluation in future lesson planning.
