Beginning the research for your Safeguarding Assignment
What Do I Need To Do?
Researching information can seem daunting. There are so many books, documents, journals, articles to choose from, the list is endless. However, one of the most important things of all is digesting what you have read; you can do this by properly engaging with the underlying concepts, facts, values and opinions contained within the information. To help you begin your research with confidence and focus, please read the article by (click HERE) Dr Jeffrey Kaplan, a philosophy teacher with a huge following on YouTube. The article will give you a simple yet effective approach to active reading, enabling you to break down long swathes of information, process it, evaluate it, and remember it. Once you’ve mastered these skills, researching any topic will feel effortless.
Remember, research into Safeguarding through the following documents and experiences will underpin your upcoming assignment:
– Your school’s Safeguarding Policy (which you’ll write about in your Independent Learning Journal, Parts 1 and 2)
– Your conversation and notes from meeting with the school Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
– The TES Safeguarding Report 2025 (quick access HERE)
