Information explaining the Assessment Only Route to QTS and relevant documents

Welcome to the Assessment-Only Route (AOR) to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Course
In this first session, we’ll dive into the specifics of the Assessment-Only Route, a unique pathway to QTS designed for experienced teachers who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and dedication required in the classroom. This route offers a streamlined process for those who already meet the Teachers’ Standards but seek formal recognition and qualification without the need for additional training.
During this session, we will cover:
- Overview of the AOR: Understanding the purpose, eligibility criteria, and application process.
- Key Documents and Evidence: Reviewing the essential documents that underpin the AOR, including evidence portfolios, professional references, and lesson observation requirements.
- Preparation and Expectations: Setting clear goals for building a successful QTS portfolio and understanding what assessors will look for during the evaluation period.
- Understanding the Teachers’ Standards: Reviewing the Teachers’ Standards Overview, including both the Standards and Sub-Standards, and discussing possible evidence to show how you demonstrate these on a regular basis.
- Introducing our Support and Request Form: Using our ‘Study Group’ session form to set conversation topics and questions.
Our objective is to equip you with the foundational knowledge and tools to embark confidently on the AOR journey, ensuring you’re well-prepared for each stage of the journey, and that you have the knowledge and confidence to compile a QTS portfolio that is both comprehensive and high-quality.
Be sure to check the ‘Materials’ tab for further reading on each lesson, and remember that our Study Group sessions occur fortnightly on Thursdays after school – be sure to check the Training Calendar on the Hub’s main page for dates.
