Grad2Teach | Phase 1 Training | Application Term

Welcome to your second term on Grad2Teach’s Phase 1 Teacher Training course!

Congratulations on completing the first term of your Phase 1 teacher training course and passing your Progress Review. You will have been assigned an Professional Assessor (PA) who will be working closely with you by giving you feedback on your uploaded documents for the next 2 terms. It is vital that you actively engage with your PA’s feedback as this will support your development as a practitioner and get you ready for the demands of the PGCE course.

During this term, the Application stage of your Phase 1 training, you will revisit two Teacher Standards from Term 1 (the Foundation stage) alongside two new Teachers’ Standards. The 4 Teacher Standards for this term, are:

1. Professional Values (revisit): Teacher Standard 8 (TS8) ‘Fulfil wider professional responsibilities’ and Part 2 ‘Personal and Professional Conduct’ including safeguarding
2. Behaviour Management (revisit): Teacher Standard 7 (TS7) ‘Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment’
3. Promote Good Progress: Teacher Standard 2 (TS2) ‘Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils’
4. Adaptive Teaching: Teacher Standard 5 (TS5) ‘Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils’. Please note: A guide to the Teachers’ Standards can be downloaded on the RED button below.

Each month you will be required to upload the following documents which must be labelled accurately with your initials, followed by the appropriate abbreviation:

2 x Lesson Plans (LP) – LP1, LP2

2 x Observing Colleagues (OC) – OC1, OC2

1 x Teacher Standard Strategies and Reflections (SR) – You will need to put the Teacher Standard first after your initials and then SR e.g. TS S7 SR

Each half term you will need to organise for your In-School Mentor (ISM) to observe you. One of these observations will be a joint observation with your In-School Mentor (ISM) and Professional Assessor (PA). Following your formal observation and feedback from your ISM and/or PA, you will need to complete the Trainee Post-Observation Reflection and Action Plan.
