Observation of Colleagues 1 | W4 – Observing colleagues – how is pupils’ behaviour managed effectively?

What Do I Need To Do?

Arrange to observe a lesson delivered by a colleague with whom you can have a pre-observation discussion. Use this opportunity to explore the specific strategies they employ to encourage positive behaviour for learning. Think back to TD1 Part 2 when you considered two different approaches – behaviour management versus behaviour for learning. You are likely to see both in practice when you begin to observe teachers’ lessons.

We have provided a form for you to complete as you observe. It takes into account both approaches and encourages you to reflect on what strategies the teacher is using and their impact on pupils; remember that some strategies will be for the benefit of the whole class whilst others may be specifically targeted at a particular pupil or group of pupils. Refer to the ‘Observing Colleagues Guidance to help you if you’d like some focused prompts for what to look for during the lesson.
